Sustainability
Sustainability is all around Planet Green

What is sustainability? That is a question many have asked and we are still searching for the perfect answer. Instead of a definition, it is better to describe sustainability in what it means and does. Sustainability means achieving the "to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs," as the United Nations sees. Sustainability means considering people, profit, and prosperity, as well as the planet, in environmental decisions. Sustainably managed farms, for example, do not just preserve the woods around them. Aside from preserving that habit, a sustainable farm protects the people around it by using no harmful chemicals. It improves the community by working with other local suppliers to keep money in the region. And it empowers its employees through a fair and safe work place that makes workers want to care about their environment. Sustainability is a comprehensive way of presenting environmentalism; a way we can meet the problems of today and tomorrow with the ecological consciousness we first nurtured over 40 years ago.

At Planet Green, our mission is not to define sustainability. There are many wonderful policy organizations that do so already. Instead, our job is a lot more fun, as we help customers live sustainability and green ideas. Owner and President Rebecca Reynolds individually selects all the items and vendors featured in our store. Everything at Planet Green is something she personally uses and/or would recommend to her friends and family. Sustainability is all around Planet Green and our staff can help you find it. A cutting board is made out of the reclaimed timbers of a demolished Cleveland school. Body washes are enhanced with herbs grown in rural Wooster, Ohio. Jewelry travels just a few miles from an artist's Lakewood, Ohio studio to our showroom. And by souring from eco-conscious vendors, our store helps further dozens of individual efforts and lifestyles that our artists and suppliers have chosen. Our mission is to show that green living can be easy, that it is safe, and, finally, stylish!

That is 2/10th of a cent per gallon! Even the purchase of a new water bottle ($12-$20) is less than a bottle a day habit. Reusable containers also help eliminate the almost 38 billion plastic water bottles that end up in U.S. landfill annually. Speaking of water, why not consider...
